Kristina: “Children’s books and school catalogs – I had to throw everything away”

SMHI has issued a red warning for high flows in Svartån in Västmanland after the heavy rain that fell during the night to Saturday. Västmanland is hard hit and the entire Sala municipality’s water and sewage system is flooded. – It’s a lot of work and boring for the private individuals who are hit directly in the wallet, then there’s tax money too of course, says Jan Hell, property manager at Sala municipality, to TV4 Nyheterna. Countless people’s houses have been flooded by the rain. – I had to throw away all the children’s books, all the school catalogues, everything like that. Then it was felt. The other is just stuff, but it’s the memories that can’t be brought back, says Kristina Renemar Egebrink, whose house in Heby was flooded. Janne saved the guitars in a panic During the night, up to 70 millimeters of rain fell in the area where Janne Norberg lives, in Rosshyttan in Västmanland. In the morning the basement was filled with water. – I had a frog that swam down in the basement. And I have quite a few guitars so I panicked, says Janne Norberg. His wife was quick to call the neighbor who could help them, and they put five water pumps in the basement and the guitars could be moved. – It is our neighbors who helped us, otherwise we would not have fixed this. There are many houses around us where there is water everywhere, so we have escaped very easily. Thought they lived safely, Janne Norberg didn’t think his house could be affected by flooding. – We lived, I thought, for sure. Me and my wife talked about it a few nights ago, that it was safe because we don’t live near any watercourse. But we have clearly escaped lightly. The problem is, says Janne Norberg, that the water doesn’t sink away either. – All the ditches, everything is filled with water.
