President of the United States Joe Biden Swedish Prime Minister who met in Washington Ulf Kristersson says that he is convinced that the United States will do everything possible to get Sweden into the defense alliance NATO.

Kristersson said of SVT in the interview that the US’s advantage is Sweden’s NATO membership.

Sweden is still waiting for a military alliance in NATO’s lobby, as Turkey and Hungary have not ratified its membership. Next week, the NATO summit will be held in Vilnius, Lithuania.

According to Kristersson, both he and President Biden share the common view that the Vilnius meeting would be a very suitable time for Sweden’s NATO membership.

– But only Turkey can make Turkish decisions, the Prime Minister stated.

SVT also asked what kind of opportunities Kristersson sees for Sweden’s membership at the upcoming meeting in Vilnius.

Kristersson did not want to rule out the possibility of membership completely.

– Nothing is clear, he said.

Earlier, in a joint press conference with Kristersson, Biden expressed strong US support for Sweden’s NATO membership.

– The United States fully supports Sweden’s membership in NATO. Sweden makes our alliance stronger, Biden said.

Kristersson thanked the United States for the support and added that Sweden also has a lot to offer to NATO.

In the past, most NATO member countries have expressed the goal of Sweden becoming a member at the latest at the summit, but at the moment the situation still seems uncertain.

According to the White House, during the meeting, Biden again emphasized the position of the United States, according to which Sweden must be accepted as a member of NATO as quickly as possible.

In addition, Biden and Kristersson discussed relations with China, climate change and new technologies, among other things.
