Kristersson: We need the Gripen plane ourselves

During Volodymyr Zelenskyj’s visit to Sweden this weekend, he again asked for the Swedish Gripen planes. There are no plans from the Swedish side to send such.
– Sweden is a geographically large country, we have to defend ourselves and we are not yet in NATO, says Ulf Kristersson about the Gripen plan.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj visited Stockholm and Harpsund this weekend. There were long talks with Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, and distribution in the form of a promise that Swedish Combat Vehicles 90 will be manufactured in Ukraine.

Another thing that Zelenskyy has long requested is air combat forces.

– I have great respect for the fact that they demand more of everything, need more of everything. One of his many good qualities is that he is so frank and clear. He doesn’t have time for small talk, says Kristersson about Zelenskyj.

Kristersson: Need the battle plan

– It is a balancing act between what we can spare for them and what we must have ourselves. We are now part of what is known as the F 16 coalition, where we cooperate with 14 countries to ensure that Ukraine gets flight capacity, says Kristersson.

Denmark and the Netherlands have together promised tens of fighter jets to Ukraine.

– We are not in that situation. We will do everything to support them with air, but right now there are no new commitments to provide Swedish aircraft to Ukraine.
