Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) called on the Riksdag to gather around the government’s new energy targets.

– Let’s get something done, he said in the Riksdag’s party leader debate

Kristersson began the party leader debate by describing what the government had achieved during the past six months. He highlighted the Swedish EU presidency, which he described as “successful”.

– Sweden succeeded in what many thought impossible. The historic settlement on migration was completed last Thursday, Kristersson said, among other things.

He also hopes that the Swedish EU presidency will have time to finish the last act in the EU’s big climate package.

– I hope, but cannot promise that we will achieve it, Kristersson said.

He also highlighted how the EU presidency prioritized support for Ukraine.

– This is a fight for civilization against barbarism, Kristersson said.

The Prime Minister reminded the Riksdag that it will soon vote on the government’s new goals for energy policy. One hundred percent renewable energy must be replaced by one hundred percent fossil-free energy. The government’s idea is that it should open up new nuclear power.

– How you vote then will be important, Kristersson said.

– The green transition is urgent. Now don’t let old locks stand in the way of all new possibilities. Let’s get together and get something done.
