Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson calls the information that police officers leaked to gang criminals alarming and says that there is a risk that trust in the police will drop.
An investigation by DN shows that people have had to quit the police after they are suspected of having leaked information to gang criminals, with whom they also had relationships.
The newspaper has found at least four people who were classified as security risks by the police, who were then also able to move on to jobs at, among others, the Swedish Courts Administration, the Social Security Administration and Sis-hem.
Prime Minister (M) Ulf Kristersson tells TT that it is “very worrying information”.
Is there a risk that this will erode trust in the police?
– There are many big risks and one such is that trust in the police drops, that you get the impression that mafia-like methods are being infiltrated into the justice system. It is very serious and we have to deal with it, he says.
Kristersson does not currently want to call it a threat to the security of the kingdom.
– I can’t say that based on this information, but the mere suspicion that such connections exist is harmful to something as important as the police, he says.
He further says that he is open to changes in how the police recruit, or which checks are made, if necessary.
After DN’s disclosure, Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M) has called a meeting with the police regarding the information.
