On Wednesday, the three Swedish ministers gathered in Washington, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M), Foreign Minister Tobias Billström (M) and Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M), for a press conference.
During the summit, mainly three points will be discussed. It is about long-term financial support for Ukraine, Ukraine’s path to membership in NATO and strengthening the alliance’s cooperation with the EU and nations in Southeast Asia.

More financial support
In an interview with SVT after the press conference, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson explains why financial support to Ukraine is so important.
– It is a crystal clear signal to countries that are ready to invade other countries that democracies will not tolerate it, says the prime minister.
SVT: How do you see the war just continuing despite support package after support package?
– Compared to Russia, Ukraine is a relatively small country and it is impressive that Ukraine has managed so well, but more will be needed.
– I think we will see even more support for Ukraine, for their sake but also because it would have enormous consequences for the entire European security apparatus if it turns out that one country can invade another and get away, says Ulf Kristersson.
A united NATO
Ukraine has been on the defensive for a couple of months and Russia has slowly made progress along the front. Kristersson believes that NATO still agrees that the goal is for Ukraine to win the war.
– I perceive a very broad consensus. Different countries have different economic conditions, but overall I think that the EU and NATO are making incredibly big efforts for Ukraine, says Ulf Kristersson.
The entire interview with Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson can be seen in Aktuellt which is broadcast at 9pm on SVT1 and on SVT Play.
