The two leaders met on Wednesday to discuss “common challenges” such as irregular migration to the EU, support for Ukraine and EU security and defense.
– Improving return and increasing cooperation with third countries is high on my government’s agenda, says Kristersson during the press conference.
During the press conference, Kristersson announced that Sweden is ready to participate in Meloni’s initiative “Rome process”.
– I see Rome process as a good example of combining migration and development, trade and financial issues.
During the press conference, Kristersson said that there is a consensus between the leaders in the fact that it is unacceptable that only around 20 percent those who are decided to leave the EU actually do.
– Both Sweden and Italy feel the consequences of huge irregular immigration too well. That is why we both change politics and act for the EU to do more, says Kristersson.
