Hungary is still aside when the rest of the EU stands steadily behind Ukraine.

– We are right and Hungary is wrong, says Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) in Brussels.

Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at Thursday’s EU summit did not want to agree to the statement about the situation in Ukraine that the other 26 countries wanted. Thus, it again became a separate Ukraine statement from the others-just like two weeks ago.

Ulf Kristersson regrets, but at the same time points out that the majority in the EU instead have other countries in their opinion on Russia’s war.

– As much as I regret that Hungary is not included, I am just as pleased that the UK is really with us, says the prime minister at a Swedish press conference.

Ukraine and the defense equipment in the EU were again main subjects at Thursday’s EU summit. EU leaders once again gave the thumbs up to the renovation plan presented by the European Commission and which was largely already dealt with at the extra meeting on March 6.

– Nothing new. We really only found that the big discussion was last time, ”says Kristersson.

Facts about the defense

In early March, the European Commission presented the action plan to upload the EU and followed on Wednesday with a white paper, under the title of readiness in 2030.

The plan includes proposals to borrow EUR 150 billion that the member states can borrow from for joint defense procurement. In addition, exceptions to the EU budget rules are proposed so that countries can spend an additional equivalent of 1.5 percent of their GDP on the defense, without having to worry about getting excessive budget deficits.

At the EU’s summit in Brussels on Thursday, the countries agreed to call the Council of Ministers and the European Parliament to “quickly move forward”.
