The World Athletics Championships in Oregon started on Friday evening. In this article, we collect the performances of Finns.

The World Athletics Championships will be shown on channels from 15 to 25 July. You can find all race news here and the entire race program and broadcast times here.

Krista Tervo achieved the third-best result of her career in the women’s moukari qualification and secured her place in the World Cup final on Sunday.

Tervo’s throw reached 73.83 meters, while the qualifying limit was 73.50 meters. The place in the finals of the prestigious games is Tervo’s first, as he qualified from the Olympic finals in Tokyo a year ago.

– It was a big (relief). In itself, it was really peaceful and nice to go racing. Completely different feelings than in Tokyo. I guess something has been learned over the years, Tervo commented with a smile to Urheilu.

Tervo was without a result in the Tokyo qualification. He threw the first one past the sector, and the latter two ended up in the nets of the cage. He says that he learned from the Olympic journey that you have to be able to enjoy playing sports.

– This should not be thought of only as execution. Maybe it has sometimes gone to that side and the enthusiasm has also gone too far. You just have to find your own calmness and tranquility, says Tervo.

Tervo’s Finnish record of 74.40 is from Portugal in March. The second best throw of his career is from the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku in June, 74.34.

– I don’t really remember anything about that throw. It was casual and fast. That’s what I usually strive for, Tervo says with a laugh.

Silja Kosonen and Suvi Koskinen will throw the ball in the second qualifying group from 10:30 p.m.

The Moukari men qualified

Finnish moukari men Tuomas Seppänen and Aaron Kangas instead, they were eliminated from the finals. Seppänen was 23rd and Kangas 27th in the qualifier.

All three of Seppänen’s throws carried the same number of meters. The best fell to 72.81 meters, while the last person to advance threw 74.67. The qualifying limit was 77.50 meters, which would have required Seppäne to set his own record.

– Feeling a little speechless. Can’t possibly be satisfied. There was a juicy steak on offer, but I would pass it by with a fork, Seppänen described to Urheilu.

Kangasjäi, who threw in group B for the first time this summer, scored 69.69 under 70 meters. He missed his season best by more than five meters.

– Technically, the throws were too hasty. At my level, I throw the 75-meter one when everything works out well technically. It was overdone, Kangas admitted.

The number one qualifier was a four-time world champion from Poland Pawel Fajdek with a result of 80.09.
