Silja Kosonen and Krista Tervo succeeded perfectly in the women’s moukari final. The last time something similar was achieved in Finnish athletics was 28 years ago in Atlanta.

Finnish history was witnessed in the women’s shot put final, when both Silja Kosonen that Krista Kosonen reached the top eight. This had never happened in the sport before at the Olympic level.
Two years ago, in the European Championship, Kosonen was fifth and Tervo eighth. Kosonen was fifth with a season’s best 74.04, and Tervo was sixth with a 73.83 race.
Just like last year’s World Cup, Canada won the gold Camryn Rogers (76,87). The second was from the USA Annette Nneka Echikunwoke (75.48) before China Jie Zhao (74.27).
The last time two Finnish female athletes were among the top eight at the Olympics was 1996 in Atlanta, when the women’s javelin Heli Rantanen won gold and Mikaela Ingberg was seventh.
Kosonen’s longest arc was only 15 centimeters short of his last year’s record. He was also fifth in last year’s World Championships.
– I am really proud of both of us. In such a place, such throws from both. We talked about how tough the competition was. Being fifth and sixth at the Olympics feels really great, Kosonen felt.
Kosose had a strange feeling before the start of the final. He wasn’t excited at all.
– It didn’t really feel like anything. After about four hours of downtime, I started to enjoy this. The state of being changed completely.
Tervo’s full translation
If even earlier in the summer Krista Tervo had big problems with throwing, now that monkey is off her shoulders.
Tervo, who broke a new Finnish record of 74.79 in the qualifying round, in this Tuesday’s final, immediately scored a qualifying arc of 73.83.
In June-July, Tervo had a really dark phase, during which he was, for example, completely without a result three times.

The 26-year-old Finn got a roar even in the final after successful throws.
– I was really relieved. I knew it would be enough for the mini goal, i.e. throw all six throws.
At the time, some experts wondered if Tervo should go to the value competition at all, when the palette was so messed up. Tervo lashed out at those who criticized him.
– If I had listened to experts and internet commentators, I should not have been sent to the games. Luckily I didn’t listen!

“Triple win in Los”
Women’s moukari has been booming for a long time. Kosonen and Tervo are trendsetters.
The next Olympics will be held in Los Angeles in 2028.
– We have good goals. Then a triple win in lottery!
– When we are able to perform like this in a place like this, it is really demanding. I’m really proud of us
Kosonen and Tervo don’t have time to stay in Paris to celebrate, because they have an early flight to Finland in the morning.
– We’re going to pack. We have a wake-up call at six in the morning. I have freezing chaos in the room. I have to go pack up for stress, Kosonen laughed.
Big meltdowns
The Olympic final saw a big meltdown when the world champion DeAnna Price didn’t make it to the last three rounds and was only 11th. The American was one of the biggest advance favorites of the race beforehand, but he only managed to reach 71 meters.
