Krista Pärmäkoski has fallen ill and has to leave the Tour de Ski. According to the skiing association, it is not a coronavirus infection.
– My Tour ended this morning. After the supervised night, I tried to have sex again, but the stomach disease is now taking the woman’s victory. It feels bad, Pärmäkoski messaged himself on his Instagram account (you will switch to another service).
Pärmäkoski had skied perfectly on the Tour de Ski tour before he got sick. He was third overall, 1 minute and 5 seconds behind Sweden Frida Karlsson behind before the last two races in Val di Fiemme.
Norwegian Tiril Udnes Weng was 24 seconds ahead of Pärmäkoski in second place.
Pärmäkoski grabbed his first podium places of the season this week, when he was second in both the 10 km traditional skiing race and the 20 km freestyle pursuit race in Oberstdorf.
On Friday, Pärmäkoski reached the final in the traditional skiing sprint, where he was fifth.
Urheilu caught up with the head coach of the Finnish national team Teemu Pasanen From Val di Fiemme from the service booth. According to Pasanen, Pärmäkoski got sick at night.
– It’s a real shame when he was in such good positions on the Tour. Krista could have fought for the top positions and even won the Tour. This is sure to upset Krista and the rest of us as well, Pasanen stated.
According to Urheilu, Pärmäkoski went for a run on Friday evening and was also with the team in a meeting before the stomach bug started at night.
Getting sick is a big hit financially. The overall winner of the Tour de Ski would have received 80,000 euros, the runner-up 60,000 euros and the third 40,000 euros.
In addition, getting sick means a financial and sporting blow to the overall situation of the World Cup. Before today’s race, Pärmäkoski was also third in the overall standings of the World Cup behind Tiril Udnes Weng and Frida Karlsson.
from the Finnish national team Jasmi Joensuu already had to leave the Tour de Ski on Friday because of a stomach bug.
– Of course, stomach disease can still infect others. All possible actions have been taken in Tour as well. Nothing is always possible for them, Pasanen states.
Leaving Pärmäkoski aside means that Kerttu Niskanen now ranks fourth overall in the Tour de Ski.
– Now the Tour will continue as normal. Nothing more than that. Kerttu is in a good position and will definitely fight for the top positions, says Pasanen.
The Tour de Ski continues on Saturday with the women’s 15 km co-start race in traditional skiing. The live broadcast starts at 12:40 on TV2, Areena and the app.
