PLANICA. Krista Pärmäkoski exudes a sunny look near Planica a few days before the start of the World Ski Championships. The 12-time ranking medalist has fond memories of Planica, Slovenia, where he won his first World Cup competition in 2018.

– It’s been quite a while since (the World Cup win), but of course the nice memories remained. The route has changed a bit, although the same tracks are still used. At that time, the traditional intermediate start was skied, now there are ten skiers on the program. If you’ve succeeded once, why can’t you succeed a second time?

Pärmäkoski has recently been looking for its peak energy, which has been somewhat lost. The good going on the tour was interrupted by a stomach bug before the climax of the tour. Before his suspension, he was third overall on the tour.

Pärmäkoski assures that he knows what caused the slight decline in peak performance.

– There was clearly better work to do in Toblach, Italy, and since then there have been good trainings, for example I went to Val di Fiemme to do one tougher training.

– Yesterday, I actually did my own tenth race on the tracks of Planica. Four others had registered for the race, but they did not dare to cross the line. I made the trip alone and I won, the good-natured skier muttered.

After becoming serious for a moment, Pärmäkoski added.

– Yes, I am very confident.

14 years since the World Cup debut

Pärmäkoski achieved his first World Cup points in 2008. The following year, he topped the prestigious competition at the MM-Liberec.

– At least the feeling is better now than it was 14 years ago when going to the first World Championships. Then we wondered a little and watched the progress of the others. Now the purpose itself would be to succeed.

At the World Championships in Liberec in 2009, she won the women’s 10 gold Aino-Kaisa Saarinen Virpi Kuitunen being fourth. Pärmäkoski finished 37th in his World Cup debut race.

At this stage, Pärmäkoski did not start to open up its World Championship plan in a bigger way.

– My first trip is a skiathlon, which is where I start. After that, we’ll see what the week brings.

The women’s skiathlon (7.5 km p + 7.5 km v) is on the program on Saturday, February 25. A day earlier, a men’s skiathlon takes place in Planica.

– I have been in a relaxed mood and the feeling is really good. Yes, here we are already waiting for the competitions to start. Let’s go enjoy!
