It is the Russian appointed governor Sergey Aksionov who writes on Telegram that traffic on the bridge has been stopped due to an “emergency”. According to Aksionov, law enforcement and other community services are active and measures are being taken to deal with the situation.
A couple of parents from the Russian Belgorod region are said to have been killed and their daughter injured after the “emergency” on the bridge, writes the region’s governor Vyacheslav Gladkov on Telegram.
“The morning began with information about the emergency that occurred on the Krim Bridge. We could then see a video on the Internet of a car with Belgorod license plates. The girl in the car was slightly injured. The worst thing is that her parents died,” writes Gladkov on Telegram.
Explosions
The Russian authorities have not called the incident an attack, but according to unconfirmed reports from local residents, explosions were heard early on Monday, writes BBC.
The Russian state news agency Tass writes that the Crimean authorities will help tourists affected by the suspension of traffic on the bridge.
The bridge connects Russia with the Crimean peninsula, which Moscow annexed in 2014, and is a vital link for transporting supplies to the Russian soldiers in Ukraine.
In October 2022, the bridge was damaged by a truck bomb that Moscow said was behind Ukraine. However, Kyiv denied responsibility for the attack.
