Koran burning in Malmö was stormed – and cancelled

Several hundred people had gathered when Salwan Momika burned the Koran on Värnhemstorget in Malmö on Sunday. There was a heated atmosphere in the place.

– The Koran burners had to be broken and evacuated from the scene after someone tried to storm and throw objects at them, says TV4 Nyheternas reporter Mikael Nilsson on location in Malmö.

On Sunday, Salwan Momika carried out another Koran burning, this time in Malmö’s Värnhemstorget. Spectators allegedly threw stones at Momika, and the public gathering was interrupted after a man forced the cordon.

– The Koran burners were escorted out in a reinforced police bus and in connection with that there were people who ran after to stop the transport and throw things at the vehicle, says TV4 Nyheternas reporter Mikael Nilsson on the spot in Malmö.

The man who stormed the surf was wrestled down by the police. It is unclear if anyone has been arrested following the incident.

– Since we are handling this as a special incident, we are not currently releasing any information about what has happened, says Rickard Lundqvist, the police’s press officer, to TV4 Nyheterna.

The police labeled the incident as a violent riot.
