Koenigsegg Regera goes to auction expected to fetch millions

– For every Ferruccio Lamborghini, there are a dozen John DeLoreans, RM Sotheby’s writes in the advertisement for the Koenigsegg Regera from 2021 that it now has for sale in Paris.

What you want to point out is that many have the dream of building spectacular sports cars, but that very few actually succeed.

Lamborghini’s car brand became one of the most prestigious in the world, while DeLorean’s creation collapsed in a cloud of half-assed engineering, drug smuggling and mismanaged tax dollars.

A flagship for the brand

Christian von Koenigsegg is one of the few who in modern times has succeeded in creating from scratch one of the world’s most exclusive brands of supercars.

When the Regera was launched as a concept car in 2015, it became the brand’s flagship, and by mid-2017 the entire production run of 80 cars had been sold. The price tag was then close to SEK 20 million.

The model is one of the world’s fastest cars, and offers classic Koenigsegg details such as an all-carbon fiber chassis, the very special Dihedral Synchro-helix doors, and a roof that can be removed and stored in the front of the car.

A unique powertrain

The car’s distinguishing feature is that it does not have a traditional gearbox, but is instead equipped with a unique torque converter and a single gear.

The engine is a 5.0-liter V8 equipped with 3D-printed turbochargers, and this is assisted on the trot by a very advanced hybrid system with three electric motors.

The combined effect is a whopping 1,500 horsepower, and if you keep the plate in the carpet long enough, you can reach speeds of over 450 km/h.

As late as 2023, eight years after its launch, the sprint from 0 to 400 km/h was completed in just 28.81 seconds.

Auctioned at the end of the month

The Koenigsegg Regera now on sale in Paris is painted in a color called Moon Silver, with blue accents.

The brake calipers are also blue, and the 11-spoke rims are made in a clear-coated combination of Kevlar and carbon fiber.

The car will be auctioned on January 31, 2024 in Paris, and the clubbed price is expected to land between 2 and 2.6 million euros – that is, between 22.5 and 29.3 million kroner.

Looking at the price tags on the copies that are for sale at dealers worldwide, this can be perceived as cheap, as these are in some cases around 4 million euros.
