Knife discovery may exonerate brother convicted of murder – lawyer demands new investigation

Lawyer Johan Eriksson demands that the National Prosecutor resume the murder case after the knife cuts at Västermalmsgalleria in May 2021. He wants the knife that TV4 found during an investigation to undergo a forensic examination.
– The knife can be the key to confirming that the wrong person is convicted, says Johan Eriksson.

In the documentary “Convicted the right brother”, TV4’s team found a knife that was identical to the knife that Tigh O’Connell, convicted of attempted murder, used in the crime. It was in the place he himself pointed out during the trial. The police searched there earlier but did not find it.

Could propose to Liam

The knife is important because it could hold evidence that Tigh’s brother, Liam O’Connell, may be wrongfully convicted. Liam O’Connell is convicted of murder. According to the prosecutor, the brothers, each with a knife, stabbed one of the two victims at the scene. One man survived, one died.

But Tigh O’Connell says he stabbed both men with the same knife, and that brother Liam did not commit the act he is convicted of. The knife can therefore bear traces that confirm this recognition.
The lawyer demands a new investigation
– This knife has been inside a person so it can carry blood from both victims as well as other traces, says Johan Eriksson.

Urges the state

Now Liam O’Connell’s new lawyer, Johan Eriksson, is requesting that the preliminary investigation be resumed and that the National Prosecutor ensure that the knife found by TV4 is investigated.
– The verdict against Liam O’Connell is not based on any real evidence. Sometimes it goes wrong and then I think the state should do its best to investigate it, says lawyer Johan Eriksson.
