19-year-old Klaus Andrei from Nordmaling has probably set a European record for scrambling decimals.
In four and a half hours he managed to reach 40,500 decimal places.
– I don’t know exactly how I do it myself. I just drive, he says.
The number pi is approximately 3.14 with an infinite number of decimal places. Being able to scramble hundreds and even thousands of pi-decimals has become a sport. Today, 19-year-old Klaus Andrei from Nordmaling probably set a European record. The goal was to scramble 40,000 decimals, he managed 40,500 in four and a half hours.
– I memorize the order of the numbers almost photographically. I have a very clear picture of the numbers in my head, he says.
Now the result must be double-checked so that he can be sure that he has broken the record.
– My feeling is that it went very well, but we’ll see.
Broke the record
He tells us that he was nervous and that he was looking forward to this date. Blindfolded, he broke the previous European record.
– Yes, with a margin of a little more than 16,400, says Klaus Andrei.
The previous Swedish and European record is held by Jonas Von Essen. He managed to scramble 24,063 decimals in eight hours.
