Klass wrote submitter – Free lift pass on the sports holiday

Thanks to class 6B at Porsöskolan, all children under the age of 18 in Luleå municipality receive free lift tickets and swimming during this year’s sports holiday.
When TV4 gets hold of the class, they have outdoor day and next week it’s time for sports holidays.
– It feels great because now you can go slalom for free, says Glittra Wallin, 12 years old.

Class 6B wrote a submission in the local paper Norrbottens-Kuriren as part of Swedish education where they learned about different text types.

The teacher Pernilla Andersson had also taught about democracy during the class’ SO lessons.

– A girl in our class came up with the idea that we customers make a submission about free activities during the sports holiday, says Wille Söderfall, twelve years old.

The municipality’s response to the submitter

Luleå Municipality listened to the students’ suggestions and gave a happy announcement: All children in Luleå Municipality under the age of 18 receive free lift tickets and baths during the sports holiday. Pernilla Andersson had not expected such a response.

– I thought that you plant a seed and maybe it will happen next school year. But then it happened for the first holiday, which is close, so it was great fun, she says.

This helps families financially and encourages movement. Wille and Glittra, who are in the class, believe that many people will use this.

– It will probably be every day during the sports holiday that I will use this, says Wille.

A golden example of how to influence society

Teacher Pernilla Andersson says that this teaches the children about democracy and that you as an individual can influence.

– Other students also see that it works. If you think something is wrong, or if you have a really good suggestion, there is hope that you can influence society. I think it’s fantastic, she says.
