On Thursday, Czech police received an alert about an ongoing shooting at Charles University in central Prague. At least 15 people have died and around 20 have been injured. One of the dead is the suspected shooter.
24-year-old Klara Sandahl is studying to become a doctor at the university’s faculty of medicine and was in a classroom in another building when the shooter fired shots.
– I was in class and saw that mother called several times. We found out what had happened and had to go home, says Klara.
Once outside, she and her classmates were surrounded by sirens from police cars.
– It felt scary, above all because it was at a university. Prague has always felt safe, so it feels a little surreal that it happened here, says Klara.
The university has canceled all of Klara’s lessons on Friday. She believes that the school will take the situation seriously and do what is necessary for the students to feel safe.
– I feel safe now, but it will certainly be a little different when you come back after Christmas.
