Panic broke out on the beach in Villers-sur-Mer in northern France when the weather suddenly changed. A 31-year-old kitesurfer died when violent winds threw him into a restaurant.

The local weather phenomenon is called the “galley” and occurs when it draws in a cold front from the Atlantic that gives rise to strong winds.
