Manse PP has its back against the wall in next Saturday’s women’s Superpesis third final, as Kirittäret is one win away from the Finnish championship.
The women’s Superpesis final series between Jyväskylä Kirittäri and Tampere’s Manse PP continued on Sunday in Jyväskylä with the second final match. After many events, the victory was finally recorded for Kirittäri with numbers 1–0 (12–5, 4–4).
The opening period of the match was effectively decided for the home team already in the first inning, where Kirittäret scored no less than seven runs. Emma Körkön (1+3, three imported) and Venla Karttunen (1+3, two brought in) the Jyväskylä group, winged by the local councilors, finally won the period with a clear score of 12–5.
– We came to the first period with quite a rush and immediately got off to a dream start in the opening innings, said Karttunen, who won the home team’s first prize.
– Even though we had a good plan at the beginning of the match, we hadn’t budgeted for seven runs in our first inning in advance, Kirittärien’s game manager Mattias Kitola in turn acknowledged.
Stupid mistakes
Manse PP came to the second period in good spirits, which was reflected, among other things, in a tighter outdoor game than before. Kirsi Ala-Lipastin (6 top shots/9 attempts) and runner-up Sara-Ella Kemppainen (5/6) at the kunnars, the team from Tampere already had a 4–1 period lead after two innings played.
However, Kirittäret showed mental toughness in the third inning of the second period, where the Jyväskylä team rallied from three runs behind to finally seal the win at 4–4.
– The second period was in our possession, but we let it level with our own stupid mistakes. However, the battle is over and we have a strong belief that we will still come from here, Mansen’s game director Jari Cavernelis swore.
– In the second period, we got into the game moment by moment and decided the victory thanks to a fierce last inning, Mattias Kitola respectively crystallized.
Along with the successes of Karttusen and the second-prized Körkö, what was won from Kirittäri is also highlighted Ella Korpelan four runs brought. In addition to Ala-Lipasti and Kemppainen from the Manse side, let’s also highlight the team’s first prize winner Virpi Hukka (9/9).
The series of final matches continues next Saturday in Tampere, where Kirittäri has the first chance to take home the WC gold.
