Series fans can’t seem to get enough of the everyday lives of wealthy teenagers. After the German Amazon Prime hit Maxton Hall, the coming-of-age thriller series Eiskalte Engel was recently released by the streaming provider. It is based on the 1999 film of the same name, which in turn adapts the French novel Dangerous Liaisons from 1782 into the modern era.
The new Ice Cold Angel series is becoming a mega hit. According to Flixpatrol, the production is number 1 on Prime’s series charts in 38 countries. In Germany it is currently in 4th place.

In the series, step-siblings Caroline Merteuil (Sarah Catherine Hook) and Lucien Belmont (Zac Burgess) are the social elite of an elite college in Washington DC. When an initiation rite on campus escalates, their reputation is at stake. To ensure they don’t lose their status, they have to get the US Vice President’s daughter, Annie Grover (Savannah Lee Smith), on their side. To do this, they come up with a seductive, perfidious master plan.

Ice Cold Angels was made into a film in 1999
25 years ago, director Roger Kumble filmed this story with then-mega stars Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy), Ryan Phillippe (I Know What You Did Last Summer) and Reese Witherspoon (Big Little Lies). At that time, the 1999 version made headlines with, among other things Kiss scene between Gellar and Selma Blair (Hellboy) and became a cult film, especially among a younger target group.
