  • That’s why No Hard Feelings sparked controversy. The cheeky summer comedy revolves around Uber driver Maddie, played by Jennifer Lawrence, who is supposed to seduce 19-year-old Percy. The crux of it: Maddie is 30 years old significantly older than the teenager. This central aspect of the plot sparked heated discussions beforehand. Many looked at the so-called Grooming remembers what describes the contact of adults with minors with the intention of abusing them.

But when you see the film, you will quickly notice that there is no truth to the accusation. As our editor-in-chief Lisa Ludwig aptly describes, No Hard Feelings doesn’t bring back the “dick joke genre” of the early 2000s, but “is a relatively average buddy comedy.” In the end, the film isn’t as messed up as the story sounds.

And perhaps even more surprising: the comedy was surprisingly well received by audiences and the trade press. On Rottentomatoes there are 71 percent positive reviews from critics. No Hard Feelings has its best moments when director Gene Stupnitsky lets a cheerful Jennifer Lawrence shoot wonderfully freely.
