King Harald of Norway has landed in Oslo.
A minute before 11pm on Sunday, the plane from Malaysia reached Norwegian soil. According to the plans, the king would then be taken directly from Gardermoen airport to the Rikshospitalet in Oslo.
The 87-year-old monarch had a temporary pacemaker implanted in Malaysia after coming down with an infection.
Before the king’s arrival, the Oslo police issued a general appeal to road users in the capital: Keep calm and show consideration so that the journey to the hospital is not disrupted. The interest in the king’s arrival was great, VG writes that over 30,000 followed the king’s journey via the traffic site Flightradar 24 as the plane approached Europe.
The king will be on sick leave for two weeks and Crown Prince Haakon will temporarily take over the role as regent, the royal house announced early Sunday morning.
The specially built auxiliary aircraft took off shortly after 6 o’clock in the morning, Swedish time, and made a stopover in the United Arab Emirates. Queen Sonja was also on board.
