During the tradition-laden speech, King Charles read out the main features of the new Labor government’s upcoming policies. The promise from Prime Minister Kier Stramer was that in the future Britain will “let off the brakes”.
In the speech, over 35 bills were presented, according to The Guardian, where the focus was on growth with the message that the standard of living for Britons should be improved, regardless of where in the country you live.
The government emphasized the importance of combating climate change with investments in more renewable energy. In the speech, the new government also promised improvements in health care while also wanting to see a healthier British people.
– A bill will be presented to gradually raise the age when people can buy cigarettes and restrictions will be introduced when it comes to the sale and marketing of vapes, says Charles.
Wants to help Ukraine join NATO
In terms of foreign policy, the Labor government pledged its full support to Ukraine during the ongoing war against Russia, while at the same time saying it wanted to take a leading role in helping Ukraine on its way to future NATO membership.
In the speech, the promise was also given that the work for peace in the Middle East remains of the highest priority.
– The government is committed to a two-state solution with a safe and secure Israel alongside a viable and sovereign Palestinian state, says Charles, who for the day and according to tradition wore the so-called Imperial Crown.
The one-kilogram piece, which is one of the main symbols of the British monarchy, is adorned with nearly 3,000 diamonds, tens of emeralds and sapphires and around 270 pearls.
Ancient traditions
