The MM points were originally supposed to be run on the last weekend of July in Hyvinkää, but the event company that acted as the local promoter withdrew from the project unexpectedly at the beginning of summer.

The Finnish competition was already threatened with cancellation, but as a last resort, the promoter managing the MXGP or World Championship inquired about the possibilities of the Vantaa Motor Club to organize the competition. The background was last year’s Junior World Championship successfully organized in Vantaa.
