The Red Cross opens giro number 6868 to raise money for the victims of the earthquake in Morocco. Money can be transferred to the giro number for the assistance of the Moroccan Red Crescent for first aid, transport of injured people to hospitals and psychosocial support. This happens, among other places, in Marrakech and in the province of Taroudant, south of the city.
According to the aid organization, the scale of the disaster is still difficult to estimate at this time. Some villages in the affected area are located in the mountains and would not be easily accessible after the earthquake.
Minister Liesje Schreinemacher (Development Cooperation) has pledged 5 million euros to the Red Cross. “We will of course continue to look at what else the Netherlands can do,” she says. An Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team is also ready to travel to the disaster area. We are still waiting for a request from the Moroccan authorities. If necessary, the team can leave very quickly.
