UNC 1151, this is the code name of the group of hackers to which the Ukrainian authorities attribute Friday’s cyberattack, the most important that has affected the country in the last four years, according to the Ukrainian body responsible for cyber protection.

According to a senior official of the National Security and Defense Council, a body close to the presidential administration, this group is linked to Belarusian military intelligence, and it used a malware-like virus, also used by similar groups in Russia .

According to this senior official, the blocking of sites was only a smokescreen for hacking interfaces which could have more serious consequences. The same group has already been involved, according to the Ukrainians, in cyber-attacks that have affected Poland and the Baltic States.

For the moment, the Minsk government has not reacted to these accusations, but in recent days, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has been very virulent.

He notably declared during the Orthodox Christmas celebrations that in 2022, it would be necessary at all costs to bring Ukraine back into the Russian fold.
