The start of the match was delayed by 35 minutes due to no safety checks. Especially in the auditorium parts of Liverpool, there were still plenty of empty seats when the game had to start. The stadium was also accessible to spectators who did not have tickets.

According to Uefa, the European Football Association, one of the parties to the arrangements, the delay was also caused by people trying to match with fake tickets.

– One of my friends couldn’t get to the stadium because his ticket was fake. However, I can assure you that his ticket was completely genuine, as I had acquired it through the club, Robertson told the BBC, according to the news agency Reuters.

Police also used pepper spray and tear gas. For example, ESPN Mark Ogden said fans who are quietly waiting with their tickets outside the gates have been sprayed with pepper spray.

– Almost all of our families were having a hard time. It was just a mess. I really can’t melt the fact that the police threw tear gas at people. It was horrible for our fans. People panicked and there were families. The experience was certainly not pleasant. No people want to come to such a finale, Robertson roared.

Also head coach of Liverpool Jürgen Klopp said the families of some of the players had difficulty getting into the stadium.

– I heard that the matter will be investigated. There were a few things that were not good. Obviously, it was awkward outside the stadium, but I don’t know more about it, the German coach said.

French Minister for the Interior Gerald Darmaninin according to the British fans had attacked the organizers outside the stadium and rushed to the stadium without tickets. Videos shared on social media show some fans from both Real Madrid and Liverpool climbing over security fences to the stadium before the match. Videos of viewer violence have not yet been shared on social media.

– Thousands of British supporters rushed their way to the gates, either without an admission ticket or with a fake flag, and behaved violently towards those responsible for security arrangements, Darmanin wrote on Twitter.

Also the French Minister of Sport Amelie Oudea-Castera commented on the unrest.

– The work of the organizers and the police was difficult. Violence has no place in stadiums, Oudea-Castera wrote on Twitter.

Liverpool said the team is disappointed with the way its fans were treated.

– Children cried and people were trapped when people rushed to the gate and tore it open, Liverpool fan Colm Lacey according to the news agency AP.

Editor of the news agency AP Steve Douglas according to the organizers forced him to remove the materials he described from the unrest.

The stadium can accommodate 80,000 spectators, but it was suspected that 30,000 to 40,000 Liverpool fans had arrived in the city without a ticket.

A Liverpool supporter likened the chaos to the Hillsborough accident

Liverpool has a tragic history of stadium accidents that is in the club’s memory forever. The accident at the Hillsborough Auditorium killed 97 Liverpool supporters in 1989.

– I’m really stressed. I’m a teacher and I’ve never gotten a pepper spray. I have not done anything wrong, I am not a threat, a Liverpool supporter Pete Blades said AFP after the match.

– I was in the Hillsborough accident in 1989 and what happened today followed the same pattern. They (the organizers) opened the gates and then closed them. I’m so angry. France has deceived itself, Blades, 57, said and accused police of using unnecessary force.

The story was edited at 9.35 am: Fixed a case where the match was played at the Stade de France in Paris, not at the Parc des Princes.
