For 20 years he was held prisoner by his stepmother.

In mid -February, he lit fire on the house – to save himself.

“I want to be free,” he said according to American media.

Wearing striped trousers and down jacket, the stepmother Kimberly Sullivan is suspected of kidnapping and holding his son prisoner for 20 years to trial.

It was after the son himself lit a fire in the room that he lived in, that the terrible story was discovered.

The fire was an attempt to save itself.

The son, who is now in his 30s, had been held prisoner by his stepmother and dad at home in Connecticut since he was eleven years old. Almost 24 hours he sat locked in a room without air conditioning and got only a limited amount of food and water.

“I want to be free,” he said according to NBC which refers to official documents.

Be constantly hungry

When he was found, healthcare professionals noted that the man was close to starving to death.

When he was younger and went to school, he asked classmates for food and ate out of the garbage. He was hungry all the time, he said. But he only had to go to school up to fourth grade. When the man finished school, he got two sandwiches a day.

The man was 1.75 meters long and weighed 31 kilos when he was rescued by the firefighters.

Since he was held the prisoner, he also had no opportunity to maintain good health or hygiene. The man told me that he got two water bottles daily. He used them to wash themselves – but never got any soap.

When the man ate, parts of his teeth were broken off. He also did not have access to the toilet.

“Our hearts go out to him”

Now, by looking at school registers and the national government agency for the protection of children, the authorities will investigate how this has been done without anyone noticing what has been going on.

– We are shocked and sorry for the victim’s sake and over the unspeakable conditions he had to endure. The now adult victim has shown incredible strength and resilience during this time of recovery and our thoughts go to him, says officials within the state body in a statement.

Denies crime

The stepmother Sullivan, 56, denies crime. After she was in the Waterbury Superior Court on March 13, she paid $ 300,000 in the castle. She was then released from the detention center.

Her next court date is March 26.
