Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan was shot in the foot during a political rally on Thursday. And he accuses his successor, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, of being responsible.

“These three tried to kill me,” he said at a press conference, naming Sharif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan and an army general, Faisal Naseer.

The assassination has not caused Khan to give up his efforts to mobilize supporters for a political comeback, quite the contrary.

– As soon as I have recovered, I will return to the streets to call for a march on (the capital) Islamabad, he said, sitting with a plastered foot. He added that he is well aware that there may be more assassination attempts.

The former cricket star has since being forced from power in 2018 criticized the country’s government and military, and has held several mass meetings.

During the attack, Kahn is said to have been standing on a makeshift stage pulled by a truck passing through a crowd when a man appeared with an automatic weapon. One person was killed and 13 were injured.
