“Unfortunately, the tests were not conclusive, they give no hope of being competitive tomorrow. It is the law of sport and it is harsh. I will not be at the start of the decathlon,” he announced on his Instagram account.

It’s official, Frenchman Kevin Mayer has withdrawn 24 hours before the first decathlon event.

16:00 – An already complicated qualification

Kevin Mayer had a hard time qualifying for these Olympics, snatching the latter during the European championships.

15:30 – The Frenchman tested himself at the Stade de France

Late in the morning, less than 24 hours before the 100m decathlon heats, Kevin Mayer did a test session on the track. The double world champion ran a few straight lines up to the 70m mark. Two long red straps ran down the inside of his left thigh, but the Frenchman didn’t seem to be suffering.

The Frenchman is quite pessimistic for the moment. “A lot of doctors will say that there is no chance that I will be at the start of the 100 meters. But the progress that I have had in recent weeks gives me hope that I have a 10% chance of being at the start of the 100 meters on Friday.”
