At the beginning of the week, an epic trailer finally gave the first real insight into Kevin Costner’s mammoth project Horizon. The film is set to be released in cinemas as a western series, but also gained notoriety because its director and star replaced his most recent successful role in the series Yellowstone. Now Costner explained for the first time why he cares so much about the project.

The tragedy of the Yellowstone crisis has been unfolding for many months. In addition to money issues, it also boils down to the fact that Kevin Costner, who made Yellowstone a success as a star, wanted to spend less time on the set of the series and more time filming his own film series called Horizon. The star broke his silence about him for the first time to the Hollywood Reporter American western saga and what he wants to achieve with it in the cinema:

Than nobody even the first film [von Horizon] wanted to do, I had the bright idea of making four films. So I don’t know what’s wrong with me. But I wanted to go further than ordinary westerns, in which we enter a city that is already there. Nobody knows how it came about. A man comes there, so to speak, from the horizon. All we know about him is that he has a few skills that the settlement desperately needs. Too often it just suits the hero to knock out the stupid opponent.
But Kevin Costner didn’t want to make such a simple western with Horizon “real lives” show. He wanted to depict what people have to endure outside of the revolver fights (which of course still exist).

For Kevin Costner, the journey to his personal horizon goes back 30 years, with him as director, leading actor and co-screenwriter took out a loan on his houseto help finance the adventure. What in the film business “not the smartest decision” is, as he emphasizes. But the inner urge to tell his ever-growing western epic was too great and now he hopes that his personal odyssey will speak to the audience as a film:

The [Projekt Horizon] is by far the biggest fight. I shot Dances with Wolves in 106 days. I filmed the film you see now in 52. I learned a lot and used every trick in the book to bring this project to its audience. And there are four films!
Kevin Costner also sacrificed the series Yellowstone to this Western dream, which is now ending after five seasons, probably without him.
Not much is known about the plot of Horizon, except that the western saga spans a period of time 15 years before and after the American Civil War should cover and accompany the expansion of settlements into the West of America. In addition to Kevin Costner, the cast also includes other stars such as Sam Worthington (Avatar), Sienna Miller (American Sniper) and Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy).
The first part of Horizon starts on August 22, 2024 in German cinemas. Horizon 2 is scheduled for release three months later, on November 7, 2024appear.
