– Sick good! Therese Johaug atmosphere in the goal.
Norwegian Astrid A mole Slind nods next to him and states that the situation is a win-win, i.e. a win-win for both.
Slind has beaten Johaug by 0.2 seconds in the fourth stage of the Tour de Ski. They beat Finland Kerttu My neck In 57 seconds in the pursuit of 15 kilometers of traditional skiing. Slind and Johaug clearly moved to the top of the competition.
Slind and Johaug started 17–20 seconds before Niska on the track. Finland’s number one star could not match the Norwegians’ ride. Niskanen and the Norwegians praised each other for a good job at the finish line.
However, Niskanen only fell one notch in the overall battle of the Tour. Leading the Tour before the day’s race Jessie Diggins skied slower for the second day in a row. He finished more than two minutes behind the Norwegians and more than a minute behind Niskanen. Diggins fell from first to fourth overall.
Niskanen is now third overall. He is 28 seconds behind Slind and 22 seconds behind Johaug. However, Diggins is 33 seconds behind.
Again, Niskanen did not spray the sparkling drink on the podium, like his Norwegian racing partners.
– No clothes to get dirty here. The girls asked why I don’t shower. I said I haven’t won anything yet. The bottles go to the service truck. Mika (maintenance of Niskanen’s skis Mika Venäläinen) can share glasses with the boys if they want, Niskanen described.
Niskanen described his condition as good with the podium finish. He has been on the podium in three of the four races of the Tour.
– Sharpness has been found. Today’s race was merciless. It felt like a race with an intermediate start. It was sad to watch the Norwegians’ relay skiing. It didn’t help but pull as much as I could, Niskanen said.
Niskanen would have expected that Germany Victoria Carl catch him. They had talked before the race about common tactics.
– If and when he catches me, we’ll try to take turns and play a good game for both of us. He didn’t come. I had to pull myself, Niskanen said.
Regarding the overall race, Niskanen, on the other hand, drew a moderate line.
– It’s nice to be in the game. The competition is tough. Opponents are tough too. Let’s go one day at a time. Let’s hope for the best, Niskanen said.
Best career in Joensuu: “I don’t think anyone believed in me”
Jasmi Joensuu the best result of the normal distance in my career, eighth place, was good. It came with a nice ending.
– It feels really good. We have trained for this, so that the level would develop. Two laps felt easy. I thought I wouldn’t miss many. I noticed that no one came. Yes, it felt good, Joensuu said.
Joensuu is now skiing the best season of his career.
– You usually improve by training. It would be sad if it didn’t develop. I have had a good drive for many years. It’s starting to show in the results. I have stayed healthy. I’ve believed in what I’m doing and I’ve done a good job with the coaches, Joensuu describes.
Joensuu made a different decision and went to the University of Denver to study and play sports when he was younger. Joensuu admits that he would never have believed the current situation. Of course he dreamed of it.
– I don’t think anyone believed that I would drill to this level. It (Denver) has been the best decision of my life. I wouldn’t be standing here if I hadn’t been there, Joensuu described his journey to the present point.
A tearful opening from Matintalo
Johanna Matintalo today’s race was supposed to be one of the places of impact, but instead the race day ended in disappointment and tears. Matintalo’s ranking was the same 24th, but the difference from the start doubled to four and a half minutes.
Before the race, Matintalo even thought about not starting.
– In the initial race, my leg cramped quite badly. The same leg that bothered me a bit during the season opener in November. 10–15 minutes before departure, there was no time to improve the situation, Matintalo, who swallowed tears of disappointment, revealed his calf injury at the same time.
– Yes, I even wondered if there was any point in going skiing. But if I hadn’t left, then it would have been the Tour.
Matintalo said that he tried to push through the race with the pain and get the job done, so to speak.
– Now I’m trying to be desperately optimistic and think that now it’s a break. If I could get something done and be able to start in Fiemme.
Pärmäkoski has bad memories of Val di Fiemme
The tour continues next in Val di Fiemme, where Krista Pärmäkoski went to do one intensity exercise during the Christmas break. He knows that there are enough challenges.
– If there have been challenging bills there before, now they are even more challenging. Maintenance can be done with grips. In my own training, the grips all came off and I had to switch to “skate” in the middle of the workout, Pärmäkoski laughed.
– Let’s hope that the maintenance will find a little better hole in the bottom.
Pärmäkoski’s gap to the top increased by almost two minutes in today’s chase. Pärmäkoski crossed the finish line in 12th place For Astrid Öyre Slind 2.54,3. Pärmäkoski is not worried about its condition.
– Today was just tired.
