US Special Envoy for Climate Action John Kerry is traveling to China on Sunday to meet with his Chinese counterpart Xie Zhenhua and resume the suspended climate talks between the countries.

Climate talks between China and the United States were paused last year after Nancy Pelosi, then the speaker of the US House of Representatives, visited Taiwan and angered Beijing, which regards the island as Chinese territory.

The Biden administration has identified the climate as an area where there is an opportunity to cooperate with Beijing, despite the tensions that exist between the countries regarding other issues.
