Kenya’s military chief and nine other high-ranking military personnel were killed in a helicopter crash about 40 miles northwest of the capital, Nairobi, on Thursday.
President William Ruto announced the fatal crash to reporters, saying the Kenyan air force has launched an investigation into the crash.
“A distinguished four-star general (Francis Omondi Ogolla) has fallen in the line of duty,” the president said, declaring three days of mourning in the country.
Two people are said to have survived the crash.
