It’s not just Star Trek fans who are struggling with a great loss. Last Saturday, February 24, 2024, Kenneth Mitchell has passed away. He played four different roles in the series Star Trek: Discovery.

As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, among others, Mitchell died on February 24, 2024 from complications related to his ALS disease. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s syndrome or Charcot’s disease, is an incurable degenerative nerve disease, which leads to paralysis and muscle loss. Mitchell was diagnosed with ALS in 2018.
Many fans will remember Mitchell in particular for his various appearances in Star Trek: Discovery. In the first two seasons of the series he played the three Klingons Kol, Kol-Sha and Tenavik. In season 3 he was seen as Aurellio. Since Mitchell was already dependent on a wheelchair at this point, the character used a so-called hoverchair.

On Mitchell’s other roles belonged to the young father of the main character in Captain Marvel and Eric Green in the series Jericho – The Attack. He also remained connected to the Star Trek franchise through various speaking roles in Star Trek: Lower Decks.
Mitchell was married to Susan May Pratt (10 Things I Hate About You) since 2006 and had two children with her. “He acted like a conductor when it came to bringing friends together“, the Hollywood Reporter quotes from a statement from his family. “He really enjoyed inspiring a good story. And, oh boy, did he love to laugh.”
