In the Men’s Super Nest, Sotkamon’s Jymy progressed to the semi-finals against Kouvola’s Ballonlöki. Kempele and Vimpeli will decide their superiority on Sunday.
The men of Sotkamon Jymy, who are defending the Finnish baseball championship, are again in the medal games. Jymy, who finished third in the regular season of Superpesis, ended Joensuu Maila’s season with a 3–1 win in the quarterfinals. The series of matches was interrupted on Friday in Joensuu’s Mehtimäki with the home team losing 0–2 (1–4, 2–6).
Jymy, who lost the opening match at home, goes to the semi-finals to challenge Kouvola’s Ballonlöji on the high of three consecutive wins. The semifinal series starts on Tuesday in Kouvola.
– Pretty much from the beginning of the game, we got on top of the game, and the guy we let didn’t join the game. Thursday’s opening period loss in the home game was a work-related accident. This series started to tilt for us from the second game on, commented the Imatra native playing in the semifinals for the first time Juuso Lattu29.
Jymy’s joker, who took home four times individually Roope Korhonen started to find his game. The runner who gave up a run without a hit in the regular season Kalle Kuosmanen hit 1+8 runs in four matches.
Kempele extended the decision to five games
Vimpelin Vedo had a place in the semi-finals with a break in Sarkkiranta, but last fall’s Championship bronze club Kempeleen Kiri stretched the series of matches to five games at Vimpelin’s Saarikenta on Sunday. Kiri took home victory 1–0 (6–2, 1–1).
Kiri was ahead 16–12 in three-point situations. Veto did not lead either episode at any point.
– Small are the margins in meetings between such evenly matched teams. Saarikentä won’t lose for the third time, acknowledged Kiri’s captain Tuomas Jussila from the match series that has offered only home wins so far.
The opening period was decided by a two-run breakthrough from second base in a tie that opened the last inning Aatu Saastamoinen. A two-run breakthrough was also hit by the home team’s men Antti Korhonen. KeK’s number one Teemu Holland wiped out three runs in the lead by the time of the break.
The Kempele team’s awardees were catcher Saastamoinen (at 7/11) and smoker Jussila, who is aiming for a record-breaking championship in his fourth club (at 6/8).
The winner of Sunday’s match will face Manse PP, who won the regular season, in the semifinals from Wednesday.
