After many afternoons at the beach, it’s time to go back to school. But for your golden tan, all is not lost: it is possible to prolong your tan thanks to this foolproof tip.

Back from vacation, you have a beautiful tanned skin. But very quickly, your golden complexion risks dissipating. So how can you make it last? We asked Dr. Gérald Kierzek, medical director of Doctissimo, the question.

Exposing yourself to the sun is never harmless

Need we remind you? Any exposure to the sun causes damage to the skin and can have serious long-term health effects (skin cancer).

Tanning at all costs is therefore not a good idea, because this famous tanned complexion is a sign of damage to the skin tissues: it is a defense mechanism of the oocyte which “fights” against solar radiation.

That being said, if you protected yourself perfectly during the holidays – but still got some tan – wanting to maintain that tan can be understandable.

And to do this, several solutions exist, one of which would prove particularly effective…

The Doctor’s tip? Moisturize your tanned skin as much as possible

According to Dr. Gérald Kierzek, “hydration” is absolutely essential to maintain a tanned complexion.

Choose a cream or oil with a high moisturizing power (suitable for your skin type) and apply it at least once a day after bathing or showering.

But that’s not all! Hydration also comes from the inside. Consuming water and water-rich foods is more than recommended.

Other tips from the medical director of Doctissimo to prolong your golden tan:

Plan a diet rich in carotenoids, based on carrots, apricots or tomatoes. These nutrients promote the production of melanin, the pigment responsible for tanning and help protect the skin from free radicals”, he says.

Exfoliating your skin after this summer break is also a good idea. This gentle scrub helps eliminate dead cells and therefore reveals a uniform tan over time.

I recommend doing a moderate scrub to remove dead cells, smooth the skin and improve the application of moisturizers.“, recommends in conclusion Dr Gérald Kierzek.
