Keep your Ikea furniture safe, because it might be worth gold one day! Certain old models from the Swedish giant are in fact being sold at a high price today, sometimes several thousand euros!

Since its founding in 1943, Ikea has made a name for itself by making quality furniture accessible to everyone. Today, the Swedish brand is present in no less than 63 countries and its furniture can be found in millions of homes around the world. In its nearly 80 years of existence, it has designed countless pieces that have become iconic. So much so that some of its older products are extremely sought after on the second-hand market.

Certain pieces of furniture have ended up becoming essentials, their design having marked entire generations. But did you know that certain products could become profitable investments? It seems that they sometimes increase in value with age. Of course, we are not talking here about basic products, like a good old Kallax shelf, but about models that cannot be found in stores today, which reflect a particular era and lifestyle.

The L’Internaute site has spotted several pieces of furniture sold for a few tens of euros when they were put on the market at the time and which are now worth up to several thousand euros! This is the case of the Impala armchair. Designed by Gillis Lundgren and sold for the equivalent of €37 when it was launched in 1972, it ceased to be sold the following year due to high costs. It is now being sold at a high price on second-hand sites. Some time ago, a model in perfect condition was sold for €2,300 on the Selency website.

Another example: the Guide shelf, designed by Niels Gammelgaard in 1985. Here too, the piece of furniture has greatly increased in value! Initially marketed at €65, it was offered at €1,629 on Design Market. A similar model was released in the 2000s under the name Enetri, and is also highly sought after by collectors. Its price varies between 500 and 1400 euros on specialized sites.

This is also the case for the Duett pendant light by Bent Gantzel Boysen, launched in 1983 at €8.90, which was sold for €250 on Selency. Its vintage look has won a heart! The same goes for the Sky lounge chair by Tord Björklund, launched in the 1980s, which today sells for between 700 and 3,000 euros depending on its condition and the platform.

If you own Ikea classics, like the Billy bookcase or the Kallax shelf, don’t expect to walk away with a jackpot! If they are actually resold second hand, it will be below their purchase price. But certain pieces of furniture or objects dating from the 60s to the 2000s have become highly coveted pieces. This is particularly the case for vintage pieces, resulting from collaborations with famous designers or even produced in limited editions, which tend to increase in value over the years. Also, don’t neglect that old Ikea piece of furniture that has been lying around in your cellar or living room for decades. It might be worth a small fortune…
