Some foods increase the risk of cancer by 40%. Experts state this and these have been revealed as a result of research. The research results of Gazi University Faculty of Medicine Medical Oncology Department also confirm this. Faculty member Prof. Dr. Uğur Coşkun states that processed foods such as red meat, sausage and salami should not be consumed excessively.
Excessive consumption of sausages increases the risk of bowel cancer by 40 percent. A study published in a journal sheds light on the question of why red meat and processed foods cause bowel cancer in everyone. This study, published by Stern and colleagues in the United States, included 29,482 cases with bowel cancer and 39,635 non-cancer controls. In this study, a 30 percent increased risk of bowel cancer was found in those who consumed a lot of red meat, and a 40 percent increased risk of bowel cancer in those who consumed a lot of processed foods such as salami and sausage.
Ultimately, this study may explain why some people who consume large amounts of red meat or processed foods develop bowel cancer while others do not. When this study is developed and the findings are confirmed by new studies, perhaps in the near future it will be possible to say who is at risk of bowel cancer from red meat and processed foods and who can consume these foods more safely.
Now salami is in the same category as plutonium. The World Health Organization says it reached this conclusion based on recommendations from the International Agency for Research on Cancer, which evaluated the best available scientific data. This puts processed meat in the same category as plutonium and alcohol. However, there is no information on how much cancer these products cause. Dr. Kurt from the World Health Organization says, “The risk of an individual developing colorectal cancer from consuming processed meat is still low, but the risk increases with the amount of processed meat consumed.”
