Kebnekaise’s mountain station without drains – the pump house lifted off the ground

It was during the afternoon of Midsummer Eve that the building began to move.

– A lot of new jocks have been formed and existing jocks have been thoroughly flooded. Our pump house has not been able to cope with the abnormal flows so it has been moved, says Maria Persson, mountain manager at the Swedish Tourist Association, STF.

150 are affected

In total, approximately 100 guests and 50 staff are affected by the sewage problems.

– But so far everyone has taken it easy and been happy as long as they were able to complete their mountain holiday and use the facility in general, says Maria Persson.

As a short-term solution for the toilets, Bajamajors have been flown up next to the mountain station. How long it will take to repair the pump house is not known at the moment.

Yellow warning

SMHI has issued a yellow warning in Norrbotten County’s mountain area. The warning applies to high flows in streams and waterways due to snowmelt and rain.

According to SMHI’s website, it extends until the night of Monday.

In the clip, you hear the mountain manager talk about how guests and other mountain hikers are affected by the water flow.
