Kebab companies are criticized again – lack of hygiene

Incorrect date marking, lack of cleaning and unprotected meat in the freezer.
A kebab manufacturer in Malmö, which had a sales ban last fall, is now being criticized again by the Swedish Food Agency, reports the Siren news agency.

In October last year, the Swedish Food Agency made an inspection visit to a kebab manufacturer in Malmö and could then note that the company did not meet the requirements regarding, among other things, hygiene, maintenance and microbiological criteria for food.

The company had not taken samples of meat, equipment and the premises in 2023. The last test was done in October 2022. The authority also found old grease deposits and mold on the walls that unprotected meat came into contact with.

Seven tons of forbidden meat were sold

The kebab manufacturer has also supplied meat to several restaurants, despite a ban from the Swedish Food Agency, which SVT News Skåne reported on. A total of seven tonnes of banned kebab meat then came onto the market.

The channel could also in February this year tell us that during a new inspection the Swedish Food Agency discovered old bloodstains on clothes during the production of kebab skewers.

Now the kebab manufacturer is being criticized again by the Swedish Food Agency. During the most recent follow-up in June, it was found that meat was stored unprotected in the freezer, that the company cannot demonstrate that additives in the kebab do not exceed maximum levels, incorrect date marking and ingrained older product residues in plastic curtains – i.e. lack of cleaning.

The Swedish Food Agency now demands that the company immediately submit supporting documents regarding six points related to the criticism above, and that all of them be addressed. In addition, the company is threatened with a fine of SEK 40,000 per point if the authority’s requirements are not followed.
