Kavli wants to take greater climate responsibility – must reduce emissions: “A tough journey”

Kavli wants to take greater climate responsibility must reduce

Kavli is a food group that manufactures everything from soft cheese, yogurt and mustard. The group is owned by the foundation O. Kavli and Knut Kavli’s Ideella Fond, which today is called the Kavlifonden.

The group has no private profit interests, but usually makes a profit every year. Parts of the profit always go to the Kavlifonden. The purpose of the Kavlifonden is to do good. Therefore, the fund’s money goes to various good causes.

Has donated billions to charity

Since 1962, the fund has distributed 1.2 billion Norwegian kroner, which is approximately the same in Swedish kronor, to various charitable causes.

– Today, not many people know that Kavli distributes the entire surplus to good causes. We want to make more people aware of this, be involved in it and be proud of it. By creating communication that touches and arouses curiosity, we can get more people to pay attention to this. However, it is important that we do it in a positive way and with a twinkle in our eye. It takes something different to get through the noise, writes Annika Skardal, Senior Brand Manager at the fund website.

Now Kavli wants to do even more good and therefore plans to do something about global warming.

The company takes the climate transition seriously and has developed climate targets, which the Science-Based Targets Initiative, a global platform for companies that want to do their part to achieve the climate targets, validated.

Kavli’s goals are based on a careful analysis of the business’ climate impact, including our value chain.

Works towards net zero emissions

They will now try to work towards getting net zero emissions by the year 2045.

– Perhaps the coolest thing about having adopted Science-Based Targets is that it stimulated us to determine a concrete climate action plan as a team effort between all departments in the organization, says Victoria Voss, head of sustainability for the Kavli Group in a press release, and continues:

– In the long run, this has pushed us in the right direction in terms of how we now integrate sustainability within both innovation and purchasing, which is where the real force for change lies. It is a tough journey to 2030 ahead of us, but we have a clear plan going forward, whereby cooperation with customers and suppliers becomes increasingly important.
