Now comes the big confession about why things went so badly in 2024. The Norwegian chooses to tell the truth that only his medical team knew about.

Warholm admits

Warholm has competed with damage to his right thigh throughout the season.
– It’s like I had a chafing wound on my butt for three months. The reason I haven’t told you is not to put you in the spotlight, it’s to not put myself in the spotlight, he says in an interview with the Norwegian newspaper VG.

After being defeated by “Mondo”, the 28-year-old took an MRI and then a tendon injury was discovered in the muscle attachment on the back of the right thigh.
– I noticed during the season that I don’t recognize myself, you don’t recognize me either. It has damaged my self-image a little, but it won’t break me, he says himself about the tough time.

When asked if it was the injury that was decisive for him “only” reaching Olympic silver in Paris, Karsten Warholm answers as follows:
– Injuries are part of the game. It doesn’t matter, I was second for whatever reason.
