Karlström caused the penalty that Robert Lewandowski managed in the World Cup qualifier playoff final against Poland earlier this spring.

After the 0-2 loss, Karlström received hate on social media, something that the union reported to the police.
When the midfielder met the media after a training session at Friends arena during the Nations League gathering, he answered questions about the incident.
– It is normal, such things happen nowadays, unfortunately. But I did not see anything like that, I gave my mobile to Jakob (Kakembo Andersson, press manager) so he had to do what he was supposed to do.
– I have been in such situations before, it was actually nothing that came to me like that. I was damn disappointed that we lost the match.
When asked how he sees that the players almost expect to get hate on social media, the 26-year-old answers:
– It’s sad, there are many idiots sitting at home and writing strange things behind a screen. But unfortunately you are used to it, I do not really know what to do about it.
TT: How is the talk between you players about this? Are you talking about it?
– It happens well, but it feels like most people are quite used to it overall. It’s almost more that you tan that people write such sick stuff. But if you have been involved in it, it is probably easier to handle, I think. But the first time is not fun.
