Four years in a row, Karlstad has been among the ten municipalities that competed to become Architecture Municipality of the Year, and three years in a row they have now won.
The prize is awarded by Sveriges Arkitekter and HSB Riksförbund and goes to the municipality that succeeds best in combining relatively high housing construction with good conditions for developing architecture.
The award is based on scoring based on two different indexes, partly on survey responses from members of Sweden’s Architects, where they assessed how well the municipality works with architecture. The second is an index with public statistics that values the municipalities based on aspects such as the ability to plan construction in relation to population development and how well the plans are realized.
