Kari Jalonen has been selected as the new head coach of the Czech national hockey team, the national team says in a statement. The agreement is valid until the end of May 2024.
The Czech Hockey Association confirmed its new head coach selection at an online meeting on Thursday. Elected as assistant coaches Libor Zabransky and Martin Erat.
– There are still other options on the table, but at the moment I think he (Jalonen) is the best candidate, Nedved said in early March.
Jalonen, 62, has won a total of twelve Finnish championships, four as head coaches, three as assistant coaches and five as players. He has also won the Swiss Hockey Championships in Bern in the spring of 2017 as a coach.
Jalonen also coached the Finnish national team in 2014–2016 and won World Championship silver in his wash. In the Czech national team, Jalonen is the first foreign head coach in history.
Jalosen was to become the head coach of the Young Lions as of May 1. In November, it was reported that the Jalonen contract would cover the World Championships for Youth in 2023 and 2024.
