Petr Nedved, the general manager of the Czech national hockey team, declares to sport.cz that if he is caught, Kari Jalonen will be the country’s head coach at the World Championships in Finland this spring.
– There are still other options on the table, but at the moment I think he (Jalonen) is the best candidate.
The board of the Czech Hockey Federation will meet on March 17, when it will be known who will replace the three who have recently been fired from the helm of the Czech Republic. Filip Pesan–Martin Straka–Jaroslav Spacekin.
Some board members don’t want a foreign coach, but Nedved considers Jalo a clear number one candidate. The Czech Republic is seeking new coaching for a two-and-a-half-year plague.
Hockey boss Nedved reminds that Jalonen already knows the country’s hockey environment well, because the Finn led the KHL team to the finals in Prague in 2014 as a coach.
Jalonen, 62, has won a total of twelve Finnish championships, four as head coaches, three as assistant coaches and five as players. In addition, he has won the Swiss Hockey Championship as a coach in Bern in the spring of 2017.
Kari Jalonen is scheduled to return as the head coach of the Young Lions after a 20-year hiatus on May 1. Previously employed as head coach Antti Pennasen had to move to KHL as the Jokers’ head coach, according to IS.
