Kamala Harris found love on a blind date: “He’s so cute”

Kamala Harris found love on a blind date Hes so

Love is blind. Especially if you actually agree to meet your future life partner via a blind date.

This was exactly what the US Vice President Kamala Harris59, and the husband Douglas Emhoff59, did when they first started dating – Emhoff now reveals this in an interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

The husband details the stiff encounter

Harris and Emhoffs first met in 2013 on a blind date arranged by the couple’s mutual friend, Chrisette Hudlin.

Hudlin gave the current vice president’s number to his male lawyer contact, while also telling Harris about a “sweet” man in Los Angeles who seemed perfect for the politician — a conversation Harris previously recounted in his book “The Truths That Unite Us: An American Journey“.

“His name is Doug Emhoff, but promise me you won’t Google him. Don’t think too much about it. Just meet him. I’ve already given him your number. He’ll contact you!” Harris writes of Hudlin’s words.

But even vice presidents don’t always keep their word: In an interview in 2021 with CBS News revealed Harris that she actually Googled Emhoff before their date—against the friend’s urging.

The voicemail that almost ended it all

It was during a late night out at a basketball game with a friend that the lawyer then worked up the courage to contact Harris. After consulting with the friend, Emhoff nervously sent an SMS.

“Hi, it’s Doug. Embarrassing! I’m texting you.”

But Harris wasn’t sold yet. The very next morning, Emhoff calls his newfound love interest – who does not answer as the clock has only struck 07.30. In the interview with Stephen Colbert, the husband recounts how he then sent off a 5-minute long voicemail of “just weird babble” – something he quickly came to regret:

– I thought I would never hear from her again, but…

Kamala’s unexpected response

Harris himself has commented on the same event in his memoir, but then it no longer sounds as fatal.

“The voicemail, which I still save to this day, was long and a bit rambling. He sounded like a nice guy, though, and I was curious to learn more,” Harris writes.

The vice president’s positivity was of course a big surprise to Emhoff, who tells Colbert with great relief that he was overjoyed when it didn’t end right then and there:

– We went on that first date and it was love at first sight! I’m not kidding – we talked about our future at the end of that date, says Emhoff.

Viewers react: “Lovely, lovely guy!”

Fans are, to say the least, enthralled by Emhoff’s story about meeting his now-wife, writing in the comments for The Late Show interview:

“What a nice guy. You can tell he’s so proud of Kamala – adorable the way he acts when he talks about her – that’s what a real man does.”

“He is so cute!”

“Awwww… He’s nice and humble. Lovely, lovely guy!”

We on News24 can’t help but agree and wish the couple all the best!
